Custom Kitchen – From 3D Design to Precision-Cut Parts
Niels was deep into renovating his home when he realized he needed a brand-new kitchen. And not just any kitchen—he had meticulously designed every detail in 3D. Not a standard off-the-shelf solution, but a unique kitchen tailored exactly to his wishes – fully parametrically designed. Any adjustment to one part would automatically update the dimensions of the others. This ensured maximum design freedom while minimizing human error. His question to me: can you CNC the entire kitchen unit as a flat-pack? Including ventilation slots, mitered edges, drill holes, and cutouts – everything perfectly fitted and ready for assembly. —Absolutely!
The material of choice: Beech plywood. Not only is it strong and visually stunning, but it also allows for super clean CNC work. Together, we optimized the cutting layout to make the most of each sheet, and then I got to work programming the CNC strategies for all the different operations. This resulted in a neatly stacked pile of numbered, precision-cut parts, ready for assembly.
For some extra help and advice with assembling and installing the kitchen, Niels was looking for a skilled craftsman. I recommended my Keilewerf colleague and all-round maker, Cornelis. Keeping thins local always work best.
Why settle for a standard kitchen when you can have one custom-made, perfectly tailored to your space? Niels is even considering adding an extra layer of personalization in phase two – impressive patterns engraved in the cabinet doors with the CNC or laser cutter. But first, let’s cook up some good meals—then we’ll cook up some new ideas!
