Drum Lights

Sometimes, magic happens when two worlds collide. Rogier from Berben Design, a fellow maker and die-hard drum enthusiast, reached out to me on Instagram after discovering my Cell Portraits—intricate patterns where cells arrange themselves based on light and shadow in an image. What started as an experiment in computational design turned out to be the perfect match for Rogier’s idea: transforming original drumheads into atmospheric lighting objects.

Together, we created a collection that makes musical legends shine—literally. Think John Bonham, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, and Aretha Franklin, each immortalized in a laser-cut portrait, seamlessly integrated into Rogier’s drumhead lights. The result is not just a tribute to music history, but a unique fusion of craftsmanship and technology. Our drum lights are available on Etsy.

For true fans, we also offer custom designs. One of our most special projects was a Drum Light for jazz drummer Ferit Odman, featuring a portrait of his hero, Max Roach. A dream commission that took our collaboration to the next level. What started as a shared passion has evolved into a series of unique lamps that bring joy to music lovers everywhere.
